Easter for Sam in Video

I could post the bajillions of pictures I took of Sam over Easter, but the computer has been on the fritz and the transition of him over the course of the holiday weekend is best expressed in video.

First, you have to see how Sam handled the Easter Egg Hunt at our church. He picked up three eggs and couldn't figure out what to do next.

video

At first Sam wasn't much of a morning person on Easter morning, he was content to play with his car and let brother do the egg thing...for a while.

video

But he tried warming up to the idea. Daddy asks too much by trying to get the boys to put their real eggs, the ones the bunny hides in an extra bucket. They got confused, it was adorable.

He had a great time having lunch at Grandma and Grandpa's. He and Lexi were being so silly...until he fell off the stool. But we were able to keep him happy with orange things like cheetos and carrots with dip.

Turns out the "E2 Bai" Easter Bunny made a stop at Oma and Opa's house too.

And last but not least, a trio Easter serenade with cousin Annie.

Happy Easter!

Eatin's and Drinkin's and Doin's

Sam had a swallow study done at Riley on Thursday. He doesn't do well with being NPO at 5:45 in the morning. He woke up at 5:30, and while we debated whether or not to give him somthing, he fell back asleep. He woke up for good at 7. We have a routine, we get up, we snuggle on the couch, the boys drink cocoas until they are awake and happy enough to get moving about their day. With no cocoa for Sam, there was only minimal snuggling. And lots of griping, "I want cocoa." And lots of flop down tantrum, when our answer was no.
By the time it was time to be dressed and ready to go, I came out of the bathroom, to find Sam had climbed up into his seat at the table (something he doesn't normally do) sitting there banging on the table. "I want Fruity O's." I said No, you need to get your shoes on, it's time to go take your test. Eric came out and Sam grumbled and he grumped, "Fruity O's. I no get shoes. I want Fruity O's." We couldn't take him seriously like this.

We took him to the hospital, and after a bit, an appointment for brother, he had his swallow study. He very deeply penetrated on nectar thick, and did it again not as deep on honey thick. There's really no change there. So we'll follow up with the feeding team and repeat in 4 months. :( Oh well, it wasn't aspiration outright, though Mommy did get a little frown when she confessed she gives him water (which we know he's aspirating) and honey thick milk. That's all he drinks. He's (knock on wood) never had any bronchitis or other lung infections, so common with silent aspirators, so I figure we're doing ok. We'll follow up as they suggest, and keep going. Eric and I will not do a feeding tube. Nope. I'm open to kicking up the prevacid, since he's only on a half dose, or limit what he eats/drinks a bit, but No Feeding Tube.
Sam is ok with that, as long as I give him fruity o's.
So for a treat on Good Friday, I took the boys to visit the Easter Bunny. Sam wasn't too much of a fan.

But we borrowed our friend Emily, who was absolutely thrilled. It was her first visit to the Bunneh as well as Sam's. Emily enjoyed it more.

But they were all thrilled with lollipops and paper bunny ears. Even though it was far and expensive, it was totally worth it. :)

We had a lovely trip to see the Bunny, visit the Lego Store for the first time, and have lunch together. Sam lost the battle...first with the blue lollipop.

Then with a cinnamon sugar pretzel.

Apparently, our boy is the boy who likes and needs to eat. And he gets really grumpy when he doesn't eat. He might be mine. ;) So, if you find Sam fussy, and he's not teething, feed him, he does much better.

Yesterday he was totally stoked to tag along to brother's soccer game (the last two times it's been too cold, he wasn't allowed out of the car) and he played with the ball, and snacked on a (away arr) Granola bar...sometimes at the same time.

Going on an Egg Hunt

This evening our church had a new fellowship event, An Easter Egg Hunt.

It was so cool. Mass hysteria, kids gone wild, running rampant. There were eggs in the hallway, in the classrooms, everywhere. They tried to give the little kids like Sam a head start, but he only had seconds to take his time and find before other (faster) kids zoomed in snatching eggs.

He was adorable, and got the hang of it right off. Mama wasn't thinking clearly, and hadn't grabbed an Easter basket from home, so Sam gathered a couple eggs, and got quite flummoxed when he couldn't pick up any more. And a kind church friend rustled up a plastic bag for Sam and I.

He was more interested in the Finding than the aquisition or storage of said eggs. The church did an excellent time saving item. All the eggs were empty, saying they were empty because the Tomb was empty.

It was such mass hysteria, I wasn't able to get any pictures but this one of the boys together. Chris took off one direction, and Sam in another. I took Sam around, and our friend Jenny took Chris. Both boys got quite the haul of eggs.

At the end, we were waiting in line to turn our eggs in for gift baggies, that our MOPS group had stuffed last week. Sam didn't want to let the egg go. He finally did let go, because we had to go 'Fine Bao' (find brother). Sam's becoming the responsible one, and we had a great time!

How to give Mommy a heart attack at the soccer game

Sure, he looks all sweet and innocent doesn't he?

Ha.

Saturday was big brother's first soccer game of the season. It was way too cold outside for Sam to sit. I've boxed up the coats, it's just not supposed to be that cold in the middle of April. So, Sam and I were sitting in the car, I was reading, and I gave Sam a lollipop. I even let him out of his carseat, and into the front passenger seat to eat it. Only had 1, he didn't need to share with anyone, and he was sitting in a big boy seat. He was happy as a clam.

I could see brother, in his new uniform out on the field. They'd given him a size Small, and his pants kept falling down. Coincidently we had last year's XS outfit in the car, so I tried calling Eric. His phone was dead and he couldn't hear me, and Chris's shorts were falling every time he took a step. Sam was fine, so I opted to run the shorts over to Eric. I left Sam in the car.

Yes. Stupid Stupid Stupid. Never leave a child unbuckled alone in the front seat of a car with the windows up. The car wasn't on. But it didn't matter. When I returned, Sam had discovered the buttons, the ones the lock the door. He was playing with the lock one. He had locked himself in the car.

Yes, I began to freak out a little bit. I'm patting on the window, "Push the button baby, push the button...." He pushes Lock again and again. Smiling. Happy. He has a lollipop, he could care less he's locked in the car. Ohmygosh, he has a lollipop, Dumdums are choking hazards! Now I'm freaking out. I start waving at Eric to come. Still suggesting in a higher frequency freak out voice, trying my darndest to be calm and failing miserably, "come on Sam push the button. Push the other one. Push unlock." He didn't care. He had a lollipop.

Finally, after what seemed like decades but what was probably only seconds, Eric saw me and came over to the car. As he approached, I gasped out, "Sam. Locked. Me. Outtathe. Car." Without a word, he reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out his spare set of keys to the minivan.

I burst into tears.

Click. Eric opens the car, Sam's fine. Mommy's a blubblering mess. I think it was a good two hours before I calmed down, even longer before I let Sam out of my reach again.

Hushup

Someone has been taking after his big brother lately. His latest favorite phrase has been "Hushup". With his wonderful vocabulary, he actually told his brother yesterday, "Bao (brother) no bumbee (bumblebee) ka (car), you in my gow (timeout)." That's an 8 word phrase! As for the context, Chris has fallen in love with Transformers, and he's begun this game every time we're in the car, he's calling out BUMBLEBEE CAR whenever he sees a yellow car. He's got all of us doing it. Even Sam! I imagine Grandma Willman giggling hysterically because she hated yellow cars, and now we all laugh and call out Bumblebee car whenever we see one. Today, Chris got a timeout, and he started to call out a yellow car, but caught himself mid-bumble. And Sam yelled at him.

Getting Feisty with Flowers.

He's so smart. I'm very afraid he's going to use his powers for evil instead of Good.

He accidently got exposed to tomatoes while being babysat on Sunday night, she gave him Pizza. I thought he'd break out, but he didn't. And he yelled at me for more on Monday. So I let him have it, we've not seen any rashes, or diarrhea. So I think he's over the allergy to tomatoes - wahoo. Yesterday he napped maybe 1/2 hour, kept crying, wouldn't let me put him down, just kept crying. And today he's done the same bloody thing. I'd like to think the screaming was the pizza, but the tomato allergy reveals itself in the bowels, so we're clear for that. We just have a Hot Mess child. In fact it's taken me 3 hours to write this post because of the screaming. Gotta get back to him, goodbye.
